Produce Safety Alliance (PSA) Grower Training

April 13 @ 8:00 am

Free

This is a web-based, remote version of the standard Produce Safety Alliance Grower Training course.

The course covers the key requirements of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Produce Safety Rule which apply to farms that are covered under the rule. It’s a great training even for farms that are not covered under the rule, because it goes through industry standards for best food safety practices for growing, harvesting and packing produce as well. You can determine your farm’s coverage status here: ODA Decision Tool.

Participants will learn about: worker health hygiene and training, soil amendments, wildlife, domesticated animals, land use, agricultural water, postharvest handling and sanitation, and tools for developing a farm food safety plan.

The PSA Grower Training Course is currently the only way to satisfy the FSMA Produce Safety Rule requirement outlined in § 112.22(c) that requires ‘At least one supervisor or responsible party for your farm must have successfully completed food safety training at least equivalent to that received under standardized curriculum recognized as adequate by the Food and Drug Administration.’

This is a free training taught by Oregon Department of Agriculture staff and Oregon State University faculty who understand the rule and how it impacts Oregon’s produce industry. Once you successfully complete the training you’re not required to renew or repeat it.
