Virtual Farmer Chat – Food and Racial Justice

July 27, 2020 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Farmer Chat- Racial and Food Justice

This is a continuation of the conversation on the intersection of food and racial justice. In this discussion, we will be trying something new. For previous farmer chat’s we wanted to provide a space to process the events of the moment and share resources between producers of how to get involved. For this farmer chat, we want to dig into some of the problems within our sector as related to farming while black.

Join us on Monday, July 27th at 7:30pm for our bimonthly Farmer Chat series were we will have a discussion based on the Ted Talk of Will Scott from the African American Farmers of California. As a group, we will watch Mr. Scott’s short talk (11 minutes) about the work of his group and his own journey. After the video, we will have a discussion about the themes he addresses, how they apply to farming in Oregon, and how these issues have evolved since this talk was recorded in 2011.

We will also hold space for resource sharing to continue breaking down access to information as a form of privilege (as discussed in our last gathering!). We welcome all farmers, farm workers and agricultural producers of all kinds to this conversation. Thank you in advance for respecting the lives and lived experience of BIPOC farmers and people everywhere, and for making this a safe place for discussion and discovery.

***Please note***

This is a space for farmers to talk to their fellow producers. We love and appreciate the support of eaters and community members, but if you are not an agricultural producer who is actively selling food or farm products to your community, please do not join this call. We have other programs that are open to the whole community, and are doing our best to make relevant information available to our loyal local food supporters. Thank you for keeping this a forum just for farmers and ranchers to connect.
