Farmer Chat – Racial and Food Justice

This is a continuation of the conversation on the intersection of food and racial justice. In this discussion, we will be trying something new. For previous Farmer Chat’s we hoped to provide a space to process the events of the moment and share resources between producers of how to get involved. For this Farmer Chat, we want to dig into an issue that keeps coming up in our discussions on this topic: land access.

Join us on August 10th at 7pm and will be focussed on the topic of land access. This is one of the themes that continues to emerge as a barrier to success for farmers of color in Oregon and across the country. If you have examples of farm ownership models that have worked in your community, are a farmer looking for equitable succession planning solutions, or want to share more land access resources, please join us! Oregon Farm Link program manager, Natalie Danielson will be joining us to answer questions and talk about the future of the program as well.

We will also hold space for resource sharing to continue breaking down access to information as a form of privilege (as discussed in our last gathering!). We welcome farmers, farm workers and agricultural producers of all kinds to this conversation. Thank you in advance for respecting the lives and lived experience of BIPOC farmers and people everywhere, and for making this a safe place for discussion and discovery.

***Please note***
This is a space for farmers to talk to their fellow producers. As an industry, direct-to-consumer and market farmers need a space to talk to their peers about technical solutions to problems that put the future of their businesses in question. We love and appreciate the support of eaters and community members during this difficult time, but if you are not an agricultural producer who is actively selling food or farm products to your community this season, please do not join this call. We have other programs that are open to the whole community, and are doing our best to make relevant information available to our loyal local food supporters. Thank you for keeping this a forum just for farmers and ranchers to connect.
